Silicone oil, with its advantages of high-temperature resistance, hydrophobicity and rust prevention, as well as lubrication and shock absorption, is widely applied in three major fields: automotive exterior care, interior maintenance, and precise component lubrication. It is an indispensable functional material in the automotive aftermarket and整车 manufacturing.
In vehicle exterior maintenance, the core components of car wax and coating are dimethyl silicone oil. When sprayed on the surface of the car paint, it forms a hydrophobic protective film, allowing rainwater to roll off automatically, preventing ultraviolet and acid rain corrosion, and delaying the oxidation and yellowing of the car paint. When used in windshield washer fluid, silicone oil reduces the friction noise of the rain scraper rubber strip and can prevent frost formation on the glass surface in winter. It also fills the rubber gaps of tires to prevent rubber aging and cracking, restoring the black and shiny texture of the tires, and preventing water and dirt from adhering.
Silicone oil care agents are indispensable for interior maintenance. Leather seats and plastic control panels tend to dry and crack due to long-term exposure to sunlight. Silicone oil care products containing silicone oil penetrate the leather fibers, replenishing the lubrication and protective layer, making them wear-resistant and stain-resistant, and significantly extending the lifespan of the interior. The rubber sealing strips of car doors and the tracks of the sunroof are regularly lubricated with silicone oil to eliminate jamming and abnormal noise during operation and prevent rubber from hardening and leaking.
In the vehicle manufacturing process, silicone oil is used for vibration reduction and insulation in precise components. The damping oil for the car dashboard and the fan buffer use high-viscosity silicone oil, maintaining stable vibration reduction effect over a wide temperature range. For new energy vehicles, the wiring harness and charging station components use electronic-grade silicone oil for insulation and moisture-proofing to resist high-temperature driving, rain, and water vapor, reducing the probability of short-circuit faults. The sealing base material of the battery adds phenyl silicone oil, which is resistant to high temperatures and conducts heat, improving the safety of battery operation.
The automotive aftermarket research shows that the annual sales of silicone oil maintenance products have grown by an average of 14%. Vehicle manufacturers are gradually replacing traditional mineral lubricants with traditional silicone oil. The orders for high-end phenyl silicone oil in the new energy vehicle supporting field have increased by more than 22% year-on-year. Silicone oil has become the core raw material for automotive full life cycle protection.
