Phenyl silicone oil, as a special member of the silicone oil family, has attracted extensive attention due to its unique properties and wide range of applications. This article will provide a detailed introduction to phenyl silicone oil, covering its basic concepts, classification, properties, specific applications and future development.
I. Basic Concepts and Classification
Phenyl silicone oil, in short, is methyl silicone oil in which part of the methyl group is replaced by a phenyl group. According to the phenyl content, it can be classified into five grades: low-phenyl silicone oil, medium-phenyl silicone oil, high-phenyl silicone oil, high-phenyl low-polymerization silicone oil and cross-linked phenyl silicone oil, each with different properties and applications.
Ii. Performance and Key Parameters
Phenyl silicone oil has a relatively high viscosity-temperature coefficient, a lower freezing point and flash point, and better compressive resistance under pressure. Its characteristics increase with the increase of the molar fraction of phenyl, and its high-temperature resistance, radiation resistance, lubricity and solubility in organic solvents are improved, but its low-temperature resistance shows a downward trend. In addition, phenyl silicone oil has the appearance of a colorless to yellow transparent oily substance, with a refractive index ranging from 1.470 to 1.485, a kinematic viscosity range from 25 to 2000 CS, a flash point not lower than 250℃, and a dielectric constant of 2.6 to 3.0 at 25℃ and 50HZ.
Iii. Application Fields
High-temperature resistant phenyl silicone oil: It is used for stable operation in high-temperature environments, such as high-temperature heating oil and heat treatment baths.
2. Vinyl-terminated phenyl silicone oil: It is used to formulate addition-cured liquid silicone rubber, enhancing the silicone rubber's resistance to high and low temperatures, radiation, and other properties.
3. Phenyl hydrogen-containing silicone oil: As a crosslinking agent for addition-cured phenyl silicone rubber, it is used for bag sealing, bonding and coating in the silicone gel, optoelectronics, electronics and microelectronics industries.
4. Hydroxy-terminated phenyl silicone oil: It is used in the preparation of water-based coatings, inks, etc., and has good hydrophilicity and reactivity.
5. Phenyl silicone oil for low viscosity high vacuum diffusion pumps: Specially designed for high vacuum diffusion pumps, it features high boiling point, low vapor pressure, oxidation resistance, and radiation resistance.
Iv. Production and Development Direction
At present, China is confronted with technical challenges in the synthesis of key raw materials in the production of phenyl silicone oil, especially in the synthesis of methylphenyl monomers. Although certain progress has been made in synthesis technology, further technological breakthroughs and process optimizations are still needed. The continuous expansion of market demand, the increasing requirements for the performance of silicone oil, and the encouragement of policies have provided a broad space and impetus for the development of phenyl silicone oil.
