Silicone oil is generally divided into two categories: methyl silicone oil and modified silicone oil. The most commonly used silicone oil, methyl silicone oil, is also called ordinary silicone oil. Its organic groups are all methyl. Methyl silicone oil has good chemical stability, insulation, and good hydrophobic properties. It is prepared by hydrolyzing dimethyldichlorosilane with water to obtain the primary polycondensation ring body, and the ring body is cracked and distilled to obtain the low ring body. Then, the ring body, capping agent, and catalyst are put together to obtain a mixture of various polymerization degrees. Silicone oil can be obtained by removing low-boiling substances through reduced pressure distillation. Common modified silicone oils include: hydrogen, ethyl, phenyl, chlorophenyl, trifluoropropyl, etc. In recent years, organic modified silicone oil has developed rapidly, and many organic modified silicone oils with special properties have emerged, such as: hydrogen silicone oil, ethyl silicone oil, phenyl silicone oil, chlorophenyl silicone oil, trifluoropropyl silicone oil.

Silicone oil has many special properties, such as low temperature viscosity coefficient, high and low temperature resistance, oxidation resistance, high flash point, low volatility, good insulation, low surface tension, no corrosion to metal, non-toxic, etc. Due to these characteristics, silicone oil has excellent effects in many applications. Among various silicone oils, methyl silicone oil is the most widely used and is the most important variety of silicone oil, followed by methylphenyl silicone oil. Various functional silicone oils and modified silicone oils are mainly used for special purposes

There are various viscosities. It has high heat resistance, water resistance, electrical insulation and low surface tension. It is often used as high-grade lubricating oil, shockproof oil, insulating oil, defoaming agent, release agent, polishing agent, isolation agent and vacuum diffusion pump oil; emulsion can be used for automobile tire polishing, dashboard polishing, etc. Methyl silicone oil is the most commonly used. After emulsification or modification, it is used for smooth and soft finishing of textiles. Emulsified silicone oil is also added to shampoo of daily care products to improve the lubricity of hair. In addition, there are ethyl silicone oil, methylphenyl silicone oil, nitrile silicone oil, polyether modified silicone oil (water-soluble silicone oil), etc.

For example, dimethyl silicone oil has various excellent properties, so it has been widely used in various industrial and agricultural production departments, defense industry, scientific research and medical and health departments. It is widely used in electrical insulation, demolding, defoaming, damping, shockproof, rolling, dustproof, waterproof, high and low humidity, etc.

1. Application in electromechanical industry: dimethyl silicone oil is widely used in motors, electrical appliances, and electronic instruments as an insulating medium that is heat-resistant, arc-corona-resistant, corrosion-resistant, moisture-proof, and dust-proof. It is also used as an impregnating agent for transformers, capacitors, and scanning transformers of televisions. It is used as a liquid shockproof and damping material in various precision machinery, instruments and meters. The shock-absorbing performance of dimethyl silicone oil is less affected by temperature, and it is mostly used in occasions with strong mechanical vibration and large changes in ambient temperature, such as instruments used in aircraft and automobiles. Used for shockproof, damping, stabilizing instrument readings, and can also be used as a liquid spring and in the landing device of the aircraft.

2. As a release agent: Due to the non-stickiness of this product with rubber, plastic, metal, etc., it is also used as a release agent for various rubber and plastic product molding and processing, and is used in precision casting. Using it as a release agent is not only convenient for demolding, but also makes the surface of the product clean, smooth, and clear in texture.

3. As a defoamer: Because this product has a small surface tension and is insoluble in water, animal and vegetable oils and high-boiling point mineral oils, it has good chemical stability and is non-toxic. It has been widely used as a defoamer in petroleum, chemical, medical, pharmaceutical, food processing, textile, printing and dyeing, papermaking and other industries. As long as 10-100PPM of silicone oil is added, it has a good defoamer effect.

4. As insulation, dustproof and mildewproof coating: Dip a layer of dimethyl silicone oil on the surface of glass and ceramics, and after heat treatment at 250-300℃, a semi-permanent waterproof, mildew-proof and insulating film can be formed. Use it to treat insulating devices to improve the insulation performance of the devices: use it to treat optical instruments to prevent lenses and prisms from getting moldy; use it to treat medicine bottles to extend the shelf life of medicines and prevent the preparations from being lost due to sticking to the wall; use it to treat the surface of movie films to lubricate, reduce friction and extend the life of the film. 1. As a lubricant: This product is suitable for rubber, plastic bearings and gears. It can also be used as a lubricant for rolling friction between steel and steel at high temperatures, or when steel and other metals rub against each other. However, since the lubricating performance of methyl silicone oil is not particularly good at room temperature, it is generally not recommended as a lubricant between metals at room temperature.

5. As an additive: This product can be used as an additive for many materials, such as a brightener for paint. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to the paint can prevent the paint from floating and wrinkling, and improve the brightness of the paint film. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to the ink can improve the printing quality. Adding a small amount of silicone oil to the polishing oil (such as car polish) can increase the brightness, protect the paint film, and have an excellent waterproof effect.

6. Application in medical and health care: Dimethyl silicone oil is non-toxic to the human body and is not decomposed by body fluids, so it is also widely used in medical and health care. Using its defoaming effect, oral gastrointestinal distension tablets and pulmonary edema defoaming aerosols are made for medicinal purposes. Adding silicone oil to ointments can improve the drug's ability to penetrate the skin and improve the efficacy. Some ointments based on silicone oil have good therapeutic effects on burns, dermatitis, bedsores, etc. Using the anticoagulant effect of silicone oil, it can be used to treat the surface of blood storage vessels and prolong the storage time of blood samples.

7. Other aspects: This product has many other uses. For example, it is used as a heat carrier in oil baths or thermostats in industries such as steel, glass, and ceramics and in scientific research due to its high flash point, odorless, colorless, transparent, and non-toxic properties. It can be used as a hydraulic oil, especially aviation hydraulic oil, due to its good shear resistance. It can be used to treat rayon spinning heads to eliminate static electricity and improve the quality of spinning. Adding silicone oil to cosmetics can improve the moisturizing and protective effects on the skin, etc.
