Comparison between aerogel felt and different traditional thermal insulation materials

Hits: 159 img

With the continuous improvement of aerogel research and the strong support of national policies, aerogels are gradually commercialized and appear in the public's field of vision. Aerogel insulation felt is one of the aerogel products, which is used for thermal insulation in the fields of construction, industrial equipment, petrochemicals, etc. What are the advantages of aerogel felt compared with traditional thermal insulation materials?
1. Aerogel felt and glass wool
Both aerogel felt and glass wool are Class A non-combustible materials with excellent fire resistance and fireproof properties, but the maximum use temperature of aerogel felt is 1400℃, which is higher than the 538℃ of glass wool. The thermal conductivity of aerogel is 0.017 (w/m.k)/25℃, and the thermal conductivity of glass wool is 0.033~0.040 (w/m.k)/25℃, so aerogel felt has more advantages than glass wool in terms of thermal insulation performance.
2. Aerogel felt and rock wool
The maximum operating temperature of rock wool is 800℃, and the thermal conductivity is 0.037~0.043(w/m.k)/25℃, so aerogel felt has better high temperature resistance and thermal insulation performance. In addition, the density of aerogel felt is very small, only 3 kg per cubic meter, while the density of rock wool is 80-200KG per cubic meter, so the load of rock wool is heavier.

3. Aerogel felt and rubber and plastic
The operating temperature of rubber and plastic is -40~105℃, which belongs to B1 and B2 grade materials, and the thermal conductivity is about 0.034w/m·k, so it is not as good as aerogel in high temperature resistance and thermal insulation performance. Like aerogel, rubber and plastic are dust-free, slag balls and light in weight, and have better waterproof performance than rock wool and glass wool.
4. Aerogel felt and polyurethane insulation board
The operating temperature of polyurethane insulation board is -96~200℃, the fire protection grade belongs to Class B, and the thermal conductivity is 0.018~0.023w/(m.k). It is similar to aerogel felt in thermal insulation performance, but not as good as aerogel felt in high temperature resistance. In addition, the material of polyurethane insulation board is harder, so it is not as flexible as aerogel felt.
Compared with traditional thermal insulation materials, aerogel felt has better thermal insulation performance, fire resistance and fireproof performance, flexible and convenient use, and the thickness used is 1/3~1/5 of traditional materials. Although aerogel felt has so many advantages, its price is a disadvantage. The price of aerogel felt is more expensive than traditional thermal insulation materials, which is also one of the factors considered by consumers.
