Overview of Fabric Softening and Silicone Softener

Hits: 368 img

In the textile printing and dyeing industry, natural fiber fabrics such as cotton, linen, wool, silk, etc., after bleaching, dyeing, printing or functional finishing, will suffer certain damage due to the removal of wax and oil, causing the fabric to become rough, dull, and even affecting the sewing performance. The hand feel of synthetic fibers themselves is inferior to that of natural fibers, and after high-temperature shaping, the hand feel is even rougher. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of fabrics and give them a soft hand feel, softening finishing becomes an indispensable link.

Silicone softener is highly favored in the field of fabric softening finishing due to its unique advantages. It can give fabrics a soft, smooth, plump and elastic touch, and at the same time has anti-wrinkle, wear-resistant, washable and good sewing performance, greatly increasing the added value of the product. However, during use, silicone softeners often cause defects such as silicone oil spots, which bring many troubles to dyeing and finishing.

Silicone softeners have specific suitable working conditions and physical and chemical characteristics: first, the pH value of the working bath is relatively stable at 5-6.5; second, the most suitable working bath temperature is 30-45℃; third, from the perspective of ionicity, most varieties are cationic, followed by non-ionic, and some are anionic, and the cationic type is generally better in terms of softening effect.
