The true arena of aerogel does not lie in facades. The future lies in these three major directions.

Aerogel is hailed as the "super insulation material", with the lowest thermal conductivity worldwide. It is lightweight, efficient and energy-saving, and has great potential in the context of the "carbon neutrality" trend. However, in recent years, its haphazard application in building curtain walls has led to the situation where it is "described as having impressive performance but results in engineering disasters". In fact, there is nothing wrong with aerogel; it's just that it has been placed in the wrong location. 
Its future lies not in the facade joints, but in a more suitable and higher-value field. 
Industrial energy conservation is the most authentic and stable main battlefield for aerogel. In scenarios such as industrial pipelines, high-temperature kilns, thermal storage tanks, and chemical equipment, which are enclosed, stationary, and without dynamic loads, the core requirements are high-temperature resistance, lightweight, and efficient insulation. This perfectly matches the inherent advantages of aerogel. In fields such as nuclear power, petrochemicals, and centralized heating, aerogel can significantly reduce heat loss, thin out insulation layers, reduce self-weight, and save space and costs. Combined with dust-proof sealing technology, it has been stably applied in high-end industrial scenarios such as nuclear power, with a still broad market potential. 
New energy and high-end manufacturing are the next major breakthrough areas for aerogel. Power batteries and energy storage systems have extremely strict requirements for heat insulation, flame retardancy, lightness, and ultra-thinness. Aerogel can effectively prevent the spread of thermal runaway and enhance battery safety levels, making it a key supporting material in the new energy industry chain. In aerospace, military industry, rail transit, and high-end electronic equipment, its ultra-lightweight and super thermal control capabilities can meet the strict demands for weight reduction and temperature control, supporting the upgrade of high-end equipment. With the rapid growth of the new energy industry, the demand for aerogel will continue to rise. 
In the field of architecture, aerogel needs to take on a different form of existence. Instead of being exposed, bearing force, and experiencing high displacement on the exterior wall, it should shift to non-exposed, low-stress, and concealed scenarios such as roofing, interior walls, and floors for indoor insulation; composite insulation boards for ultra-low energy buildings and passive houses; local reinforcement of doors, windows, and thermal bridge nodes. Modified and reinforced aerogel, after waterproof sealing, can precisely exert its energy-saving advantages in these areas without bearing structural risks. 
More importantly, the aerogel industry is moving towards a green and low-harm approach. Regarding issues such as dust, VOCs, and ecological impacts, low-dust, low-toxicity, and biodegradable green aerogels have gradually become the mainstream. Cellulose-based and biobased aerogels have good biocompatibility and can be fully metabolized, making them more suitable for human habitation and environmentally sensitive scenarios. The full life-cycle environmentally friendly production and recyclability are balancing environmental protection and cost, promoting the sustainable development of the industry. 
The value of aerogel is not "universal insulation", but precise adaptation. Let go of the blind trial-and-error in the curtain wall field, return to the essence of the material, focus on local applications in industrial energy conservation, new energy, and green buildings, and continuously promote environmental protection upgrades. Only in this way can aerogel truly exert its "super material" power and contribute to the global carbon neutrality goal.
