Aerogel insulation sheets for new energy batteries are sheet-like insulation materials made of aerogel materials and applied in new energy batteries. 
Aerogel, a nano-porous solid material, is the solid with the lowest density in the world and has excellent heat insulation performance. With the continuous deepening of research, its application scope is constantly expanding. Against the backdrop of the vigorous development of the new energy industry, the application field of aerogel has begun to expand to new energy batteries. 
When new energy batteries are working, they generate a large amount of heat, causing the batteries to overheat, resulting in energy loss. In severe cases, there is a risk of fire and explosion. With excellent heat insulation performance, aerogel heat insulation sheets can be applied between battery packs and individual batteries, as well as between battery cells, to prevent heat conduction and act as a flame retardant. 
New energy batteries mainly include power batteries and energy storage batteries. At present, electric vehicles have become the development trend of the automotive industry. According to the data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to September 2025, the production of new energy vehicles in China reached 11.243 million units, increasing by 35.2% year-on-year. The sales of new energy vehicles accounted for 46.1% of the total sales of new vehicles. Against this backdrop, the safety of power batteries for electric vehicles has received increasing attention. 
In terms of material types, the aerogel insulation sheets used in new energy batteries mainly include silica aerogel, polyimide aerogel, etc. Lithium-ion batteries are an important application field for aerogel insulation sheets used in new energy batteries. There is a possibility of lithium dendrites growing inside the battery and piercing the separator, causing a short circuit. Collisions, compression, and punctures can lead to structural damage of the battery. Insufficient heat dissipation and operation in a high-temperature environment can all cause lithium-ion batteries to be prone to thermal runaway. 
China's group standard (T/CSTM 00193-2020) "Aerogel Insulation Sheets for Lithium-ion Power Batteries" was implemented on September 22, 2020, which will promote the standardized production and application of aerogel insulation sheets in the field of lithium-ion power batteries in China. In terms of application, BYD is rapidly laying out related patents for aerogel insulation sheets used in new energy batteries, and CATL's Qilin battery has already adopted silica aerogel insulation sheets. 
In recent years, there have been several patents in China related to aerogel insulation sheets for new energy batteries, such as "Flame-retardant and heat-insulating elastic silica aerogel sheet material and thin sheet for thermal management system of automotive lithium-ion power batteries", "Aerogel insulation and heat dissipation sheet for new energy vehicle battery packs", and "Aerogel insulation sheet for new energy vehicle batteries".
