A foreign company has launched a cold-protective coat called OrosApparel. Despite its thickness of only 3mm, it can withstand the entire winter. Even if it is subjected to the brutal treatment of liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196℃, the inside of the coat can still maintain a temperature of 32℃.
The reason why this coat is so remarkable lies in the addition of a new type of insulation material - Aerogel. This new type of Aerogel is semi-transparent and light blue in color. Due to its unique high porosity and the mesoporous structure formed by the interconnection of the nanoscale network framework, the proportion of air reaches 99.8%. With a density of only 3mg per cubic meter, it has now been officially included in the Guinness World Records as "the solid with the lowest density in the world".
Although it is delicate and prone to being knocked over, it can withstand a pressure over 1,000 times its own weight, and can also endure a temperature of 1,400℃. Moreover, its heat insulation ability is simply extraordinary. The aerogel insulation material made by combining it with cotton products, even with a thickness of only 6mm, when exposed to a 1,000℃ high-temperature flame jet, the temperature at the top layer will only be 100℃. Place a large ice block underneath, and through its insulation, the temperature at the top layer will also remain at 22℃.
Initially, aerogel was designed for use in the aviation field and to capture particles moving at high speeds in space. However, due to its excellent insulation properties, it has great potential applications in various fields such as warm clothing, building insulation, and pipeline insulation in the civilian sector.
