At the technical press conference of Xiaomi Automobile, the aerogel material for battery protection attracted much attention. To ensure the safety of the battery, Xiaomi Automobile has equipped aerogel on both sides of each cell. This material has excellent heat insulation and fire prevention properties, and can effectively protect the battery. Aerogel is a heat insulation material widely used in the aerospace field, but it was previously mainly used in high-end areas and had a high cost. The side of the battery cells in the Xiaomi SU7 battery pack uses a total of 165 pieces of aerogel as a heat insulation material, demonstrating its meticulous attention to detail. 
However, the application of aerogel in battery protection is not a unique invention of Xiaomi. As early as in the last century, NASA used aerogel in its spacesuits and regarded it as one of the lightest insulation materials available. When the Feiyan F7 was launched in 2023, its battery cells adopted a double-layer horizontal design and were separated by aviation-grade aerogel. Behind the cells was a water-cooling baffle, and in front was a battery frame, achieving physical isolation of the cells to ensure that each cell was in an independent space. The advantage of this design is that if a cell undergoes thermal failure, it will not cause a chain reaction; it will only affect a single battery and not other batteries. 
Feiyan Battery has also passed the UL 2580 standard certification in the United States, further demonstrating its safety. Coupled with measures such as initiating maximum power cooling during the preheating period of thermal runaway, precisely designed pressure relief channels, and 7×24-hour remote monitoring based on big data, the Feiyan battery pack can achieve real-time monitoring and prevent problems before they occur. 
In conclusion, both Xiaomi and Feiyan have adopted aerogel as the battery protection material, but each has its own unique advantages. Xiaomi demonstrates the comprehensiveness of its battery protection technology through extensive use of aerogel, while Feiyan ensures the safety of the battery through meticulous design. Both are worthy of our attention and anticipation.
