When it comes to vinyl silicone oil, it is actually a type of double-ended vinyl silicone oil. Its main structural feature is that some of the methyl (Me) groups in the polydimethylsiloxane have been replaced by vinyl (Vi). Therefore, it is a polymethyl vinyl siloxane with reactive properties.
Its physical form is quite unique, being a liquid. Due to its unique chemical structure, it exhibits some excellent performance characteristics:
Non-toxic, odorless, without mechanical impurities
Low vapor pressure, high flash point and ignition point, low freezing point
High reactivity
Excellent smoothness, softness, luster, as well as temperature resistance and weather resistance
Its application fields are also quite extensive:
1. Base material for high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV)
2. Main material for liquid silicone rubber
3. Preparation of new materials
4. Application in the electronics field
5. Main raw material for release agents
So, how was it produced? The main process used is the ring-opening equilibrium reaction. The raw materials are usually octamethylcyclosiloxane and tetramethyltetravinylcyclosiloxane. Under the catalysis of acid or base, the ring opens to form chain structures of different polymer degrees.
It is mainly divided into two types:
- Terminal vinyl silicone oil: including terminal vinyl polydimethylsiloxane (Vi-PDMS) and terminal vinyl polymethylvinylsiloxane (Vi-PMVS).
- High vinyl silicone oil: due to different vinyl content, the application characteristics are also different.
Finally, regarding its parameter indicators, you can refer to the following:
- Appearance: colorless transparent liquid
- Viscosity: 50 cs - 150,000 cs
- Vinyl content: ≥ 0.05%
- Volatile matter: ≤ 1.5%
During storage and transportation, impurities should be avoided, especially catalysts. When storing, avoid contact with acids, bases, oxidants and other substances that can trigger chemical reactions to prevent deterioration. Store in a cool and dry place. It belongs to non-hazardous goods and can be transported under normal cargo conditions.
